Techspray has formulated Precision-V 3820 to be a drop-in replacement for 3M Novec 71DA, 71DE, 72DA, 72DE & 73DE for ultrasonic and immersion applications.

Ideal replacement for 3M Novec, Chemours Vertrel, and AK225-based solvents.

Precision-V 3820 is an ultrasonic and immersion cleaner with combination of highly effective parts cleaning, broad material compatibility, in a safe formulation.

Exposure to Precision-V solvents is less hazardous than other solvents commonly used in ultrasonic and immersion degreasing: e.g. TCE, nPB, and Perc. Precision-V 3820 has a lower boiling point than other solvents, reducing heat-stress on components being cleaned and reducing energy consumption from the boil sump and chiller coils.

Precision-V 3820 cleans R, RA, RMA and SA type flux residues after high temperature reflow, wave and hand-soldering, with either lead or lead-free solder. It is also powerful enough for cutting fluids, heavy greases & oils

NOTE: Reformulated replacement for Precision-V Parts Cleaner (part #1654), Flux Remover (1655), and VC-1600 (1656).

FAQ's

HOW DO I IDENTIFY AND QUALIFY A 3M NOVEC REPLACEMENT?
For a step-by-step guide to qualifying 3M replacements, see our article (click title)7 Tips for Qualifying 3M Novec Replacement Vapor Degreaser Solvents”.
WITH A 2025 PHASE-OUT, WHY REPLACE 3M NOVEC NOW?

End-users that want to maintain control of their supply of high precision solvents for their critical cleaning needs should start the process of identifying and qualifying replacements as soon as possible. The alternative would be operating at the whims of global demand on a very restricted supply.

Is 3M discontinuing Novec solvents?

On December 20, 2022, 3M announced their plans to phase-out their Novec PFAS-based product lines by the end of 2025:

“3M today announced it plans to exit per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) manufacturing and work to discontinue use of PFAS in its product portfolio by the end of 2025. This portfolio decision is based on careful consideration and a thorough evaluation of the external landscape, including multiple factors such as accelerating regulatory trends focused on reducing or eliminating the presence of PFAS in the environment and changing stakeholder expectations.”
